Effects of overbreathing on brain oxygen levels

Cause of Cough, Home Remedies for Acute Morning Coughing

A chronic (persistent) dry cough is a respiratory symptom due to chronic hyperventilation with it’s resulting low body O2. Common causes of a dry cough include problems such as asthma, bronchitis, COPD, cystic fibrosis, as well as numerous other pathological lung conditions and of course during respiratory infections.

It often gets worse during sleep or at night, becomes nagging in the morning, and is exacerbated by exertion, and after meals. Acute bouts of coughing in the morning accompanied by headaches are common due to lowest body O2 levels and heavy breathing during the last hours of sleep (which also have the highest mortality rates).

During normal breathing at rest, the air travels through the nasal cavities slowly or at a speed of 8 km/h. When we cough through the mouth, air rushes out through the upper airways or only through the mouth at 120-160 km/h.
Cause of Cough, Home Remedies for Acute Morning Coughing This cause of cough mechanical stress (irritation) and sudden CO2 losses with the following effects of acute alveolar hypocapnia (low CO2 levels in airways): bronchospasm (constriction of airways); irritation of the cough receptors;

a great increase in mechanical friction in the airways caused by the strong air flow. There are brain effects too: a reduction in blood flow and lower oxygenation which often lead to headaches. Later, due to the resetting of the breathing center, overbreathing and irritation of airways become chronic.

Mechanism of dry cough caused by hyperventilation

Chronic productive cause of cough

Low body O2 suppresses the immune system increasing chances of chronic respiratory infections. The appearance of an infection de-novo or the exacerbation of existing infections is manifested by a productive cough with green or yellow sputum indicating the presence of dead viruses and/or bacteria and of pus.

The hidden real cause of dry, morning, productive, and chronic coughing

Hundreds of scientific publications have proven that hyperventilation causes reduced body-oxygen content due to alveolar hypocapnia (low CO2 levels in the lungs). Furthermore, decades of medical research have proven that low CO2 over-excites nerve cells making them irritable.

This effect (over-excitement of nerve cells) also takes place with the nerve cells that control the urge-to-cough reflex that usually appears due to some additional irritation (or trigger) in the chest or upper airways.

Alveoli in the lungs Bouts of cause of cough (see references below):
– irritable state of cough receptors in the tracheobronchial tree and larynx due to hypocapnia (low CO2 in these nerve cells)
– constriction of airways due to hypocapnia (since CO2 is a bronchodilator)
– chronic respiratory infections and inflammation due to suppression of the immune system cause of cough by cell hypoxia and other effects caused by hyperventilation.

Coughing through the mouth creates a huge air pressure gradient that can easily damage or even rupture alveoli, our tiny pulmonary air sacks, the only places in our lungs where gas exchange is possible. For this reason, coughing is particularly dangerous for people with bronchitis or emphysema. Hence, due to purely mechanical effects, cause of cough:

1) damage and rupture of tiny and fragile air sacks (alveoli) due to very large pressure gradients and sudden changes in air pressure in the tissues of the lungs (lungs tissue although elastic is very fragile and is easily damaged by mechanical over-stimulation cause of cough)

2) mechanical irritation of the constricted and inflamed airways due to large and rapid movements of air with excessive friction due to sudden changes in pressure.

Hence, the more you cough (especially through the mouth), the more CO2 you remove, and your symptoms become really nagging.

Natural Home Remedies for Dry, Acute, and Chronic Cough

Over 180 Russian medical doctors (practicing the Buteyko breathing method) developed simple breathing techniques to reduce dry, chronic morning coughing and to eventually eliminate or get rid of all types of coughing symptoms, including dry persistent cough and acute morning episodes.

These doctors also discovered that this symptom usually disappears when the patients slow down their automatic breathing and get over a certain exact number for the results of their body-oxygen test measured in seconds. You can find this number right down here as your bonus content.

You need to slow down breathing so that you have more than 20 seconds of oxygen in body cells all the time.
