By Dr. Artour Rakhimov, Alternative Health Educator and Author
We are happy to announce that the Buteyko breathing method is now also taught in the Greater Philadelphia Area, Pennsylvania, led by Dr. Artour Rakhimov (Buteyko practitioner). There are teams of scientists there, at the Temple University School of Medicine, who also work in the area of health and respiratory care. But none of these doctors and scientists are interested in breathing normalization (or teaching people how to breathe in accordance with physiological norms).
Dr. Artour Rakhimov has been teaching the Buteyko technique to groups of people since 2003. Dr. Rakhimov graduated from Moscow State University (with Honors). Teaching Buteyko and breathing education has been his main career since 2005. He is the author of the most complete book in English about the Buteyko breathing method, as well as 3 other books. He was trained by leading Buteyko practitioners Andrey Novozshilov, MD, and Ludmila Buteyko (Buteyko Medical Clinic in Moscow, Russia).
The Buteyko Greater Philadelphia Courses are offered to those qualified students who are willing and committed to the practice and excel due to the fact that breathing normalization requires self-discipline, motivation, and diligence. The goal of the program is to breathe normally 24/7 and this is manifested in normal body oxygenation, which is 40 s for the body oxygen test. Such fundamental project and change are possible only by constant breath control using breathing exercises and correction of lifestyle risk factors (lack of physical exercise, sleeping on one’s back, mouth breathing, poor posture, nutritional deficiencies, and many others).
The main Buteyko Greater Philadelphia course which is taught in groups is the Level 2 course.
Level 2 course “Existence” of Buteyko Greater Philadelphia Courses
Numerous chronic health problems can be completely resolved by students who adhere to guidelines and treatment programs offered by Buteyko Greater Philadelphia Courses, which can grant a money-back guarantee for up to 90% of committed students with the following “simple or low CP diseases”:
● Chronic fatigue syndrome
● Hypertension (primary)
● Angina pectoris
● Allergic rhinitis
● Hay fever
● Panic attacks/anxiety
● Sleeping problems
● Sleep apnea
The goal of this course is to achieve up to about 20-30 s morning CP test results so that there is no need for medication and no symptoms of the main health problem. Further breathing normalization is required in order to achieve complete clinical remission, including the elimination of infections; inflammation; allergies; GI, hormonal, and locomotor problems.
It takes somewhere from 1-2 weeks up to 1-2 months to achieve this level. The main Buteyko Greater Philadelphia course includes 5 group sessions (lessons), each about 2 hours long, and 2 private meetings. (Most sessions are done in a small group, but each student also has individual lessons.) During the course, the students learn various breathing exercises (up to 1/3 of the course), get educated in lifestyle management, and get homework. Apart from breathing exercises, the Buteyko method includes the teaching of healthy lifestyle factors by the Buteyko practitioner and a detailed explanation of how and why these factors influence breathing. These factors include sleep, exercise, diet, posture, thermoregulation, and other lifestyle parameters.
Requirements for Level 2 course of the Buteyko Greater Philadelphia Courses
Theoretical requirements: The student should have basic knowledge about breathing, breathing patterns, CO2 effects, and effects of overbreathing (or deep breathing) on the human body. The student can get this knowledge by various means:
a) attending the introductory lecture organized by the Buteyko Greater Philadelphia Courses;
b) reading the small book “Oxygenate yourself: breathe less”;
c) watching my video course on GoogleVideo or YouTube.
Personal commitment: The student will need:
– at least 1 hour every day for breathing exercises;
– at least 1 hour for suitable physical activity;
– following healthy lifestyle factors (only those that reduce your breathing!)
Fees for the course
The fees for courses are listed here: Buteyko classes and courses by Dr. Artour.
Buteyko Greater Philadelphia Courses Courses for children
The Buteyko Greater Philadelphia Courses also teach courses to children as young as about 3-4 years old. There are also special techniques for younger students, including new-born, infants, and toddlers. These techniques are learned by parents and/or caretakers. The main requirement here is learning the Buteyko method by parents and/or caretakers first from the Buteyko practitioner.
Various learning options (Online Skype classes, individual lessons, group lessons, etc.) and their prices are listed here: Courses and fees.

I am retired, 70 years old, with early-stage COPD. Would like to attend Philadelphia classes. I have viewed just about all the youtube videos and I understand the fundamentals. I have been working with the process myself. Holding for more than 10 seconds is very difficult for me. I have increased a bit in a few days. I would like to work directly with the practitioner. Thank you. You can reach me at firstname.lastname@example.org preferably. You can call me at 609 380-4449 or text me on my cell phone at 609 277-6447. Thank you. I live in south New Jersey not far from Atlantic City. I can travel easily enough to Phila.

Am a dental hygienist and myofunctional therapist and Buteyko breathing are very important particularly for myofunctional work. Courses through where I learned myofunctional therapy are on the west coast and in Estonia this year and I cannot do at those times and am seriously interested in taking courses closer to home. Live in Pottstown, Pa. Any info you can give me would be greatly appreciated! Sincerely, Eileen email@example.com

Where and when is the next level 2 on-site course being taught? Ad we live in Maine either Pennsylvania or Toronto would suit us fine. My 11-year-old daughter has mild asthma and allergies. She is medicated. I have panic disorder and depression. I truly believe I suffer from Chronic Hyperventilation Syndrome. It’s negatively impacting my health and life. We would love to get some hands-on help to get us started on retraining our breath. Thank you. Please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org
